October 29th

 

Please keep members Richard Holtry and Bud Montague in your thoughts and prayers.  Richard Holtry is currently in Chambersburg Hospital after having a stroke during a medical procedure.  Bud Montague is home resting after having surgery and is doing well.  Both members would welcome some company and to know we are thinking of them if you have the time please stop in to say hello.

 


 

FAYETTE & ORANGE STREET AGAIN!

October 28th

 

Engine Co. 53 and Chief 53 responded along with Squad 54 (WEFR) to the intersection of S. Fayette and W. Orange streets for an auto accident. E53 arrived on scene to find two autos off the roadway with one person confined to the auto uninjured. Company 53 assisted in assessing the patient and driver door removal before placing the box in service.

 


SMOKE IN THE BASEMENT

October 27th

 

Company 53 responded on the Boro Box to 330 E Garfield Street for smoke in a basement. Truck 53 arrived on scene to assist in searching the building and metering the basement. The Truck crew performed the standard functions of laddering the building and providing ventilation to the structure before the box was placed in service by command 4 after the situation was mitigated.

 

   

 


STAND-BY & BACK TO BACK ACCIDENTS

October 25th

 

Engine 53 stood by at Franklin County Company 11's quarters today while their members were training at the Franklin County Burn Building. While on transfer Engine 53 took in two back to back accidents. At 11:30 units were alerted to the 11000 blk of Cumberland Hwy for an auto accident with entrapment, Engine 53 arrived on scene to find one auto in the woods with negative entrapment, the Engine crew assisted EMS (A12-9, also on transfer to Co.11) with patient care, packaging/removal and hazard control. At 11:55 while waiting for PSP to arrived a second auto accident was alerted at the 13000 blk of Forge Hill Road, Engine 53 responded and arrived to find one auto over the embankment with no one around, the crew quickly secured the vehicle and cleared the scene. Engine 53 returned to Company 11 at 13:00 just in time to meet the crew from 11 returning from training.

RIT TRAINING WITH CO.52

October 23rd

 

Company 53 and Air 53 Traveled to the Links of Olde Scotland for an Inter-departmental Miniature Golf SCBA Training drill. members from company 53 and 52 ( Vigilant's) met to train on air management and RIT connections in an unusual way.  Members broke up into teams and the goal was to make all 18 holes on a single SCBA if this could not be completed new cylinders and RIT kits were placed throughout the course to utilize.  All members had a good time and learned just how long an SCBA cylinder will last.

 

 

 

 


 

CO.53 TRAINS IN FLASHOVER SIMULATOR

October 20th

 

Member of CV Hose headed south early this morning to the Montgomery County Training Academy in Maryland for some training in their Flashover Simulator. Crews were rotated through several evolutions of what it would be like in a flashover and what signs to look for before a flashover occurs.

 

 

 


 

SHIPPENSBURG HALLOWEEN PARADE

October 18th

 

The Ladies Auxiliary of Co.53prepared a float for the Fire Department to enter in the Shippensburg Halloween Parade. the theme of this years float was the children being watched over by our Guardian Firefighter.

 

 


FIRE PREVENTION AT NANCY GRAYSON ELEMENTARY

October 17th

 

Friday Company 53 members spent the day at the Nancy Grayson Elementary School giving apparatus tours and fire safety demonstrations to all 300 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students. Thanks to the Franklin Fire Company (Sta.4) for bringing their Fire Prevention Trailer!

FIRE SAFETY MATERIALS DONATED

October 6th

 

Today Carl L. Cramer Insurance donated Fire Prevention Materials to all three Shippensburg Fire Departments. Assistant Chief 53 (Cressler) was on hand with representatives from the Vigilant's and WEFR to receive the gifts. The membership of CV Hose would like to thanks Cramer Insurance for their donation.
